Protecting the innocence of every child with comfort and dignity, the 'Janitress Cleaning Programme' was officially activated in KwaZulu-Natal at Nsimbini Full Service School as an inspiring Youth Day celebration — a historic day honouring the courage of students who stood up, allowing future generations to rise with equal education and justice. Marking the regional launch of an ambitious national movement to empower 200 Janitresses across all 9 provinces of South Africa, an initiative officially driven by our UN-approved Out the Blue Programs.

Heroines Championing Cleanliness

This heartwarming rollout empowers our extraordinary Janitress, Ms Nombeko Victoria Soyamba, with advanced training and structured checklists, giving her the wings to lift the entire school ecosystem. This critical upgrade provides 1180 learners and 23 teachers under the guidance of Principal Ms Pinky Mhlongo with immaculate, welcoming, and safe sanitation spaces, tenderly restoring the basic human rights, dignity, and comfort which every precious child deeply deserves.

Bringing Daily Dignity to Nsimbini.

In many under-resourced informal communities, vulnerable children continue to learn under difficult, heavily strained environment conditions. Overburdened plumbing, broken maintenance systems, and poor sanitation have long been a heartbreaking, stressful part of daily life. Operating as a fee-free Quintile 3 public school within a challenging socioeconomic backdrop, Nsimbini relies strictly on limited government funding. These structural hurdles place learners, especially young girls growing into womanhood, at a constant, unfair educational disadvantage.

Nsimbini Full Service Primary School was bravely struggling against these heavy odds, operating under deeply challenging sanitation conditions. With only 5 toilets and a single urinal for boys, 7 toilets for girls, and 6 mixed-use toilets for Grade R, the physical infrastructure was heavily stretched to its limits for over a thousand active, laughing children. The school's facilities compromised pupil well-being, health, and fundamental comfort.

As a result, some terrified younger Grade R learners experienced overwhelming anxiety navigating the busy facilities. Older girls frequently faced the painful reality of missing class during their menstrual cycles simply due to unstocked, uninviting spaces. This vital initiative changes everything, transforming neglected blocks into bright sanctuaries of comfort, security, and endless learning.

Wash your Hands.

The day flourished with hands-on soap-making, handwashing demonstrations, and a school-wide Hygiene Pledge. Teaching our children the vital importance of washing their hands remains the simplest, most powerful tool to wash away harmful germs, protect little bodies, and secure their health.
